INTRODUCTION TO LOUNGE_WEAR
I was recently invited to preview the debut collection from Lounge-wear, prior to it’s release. I was extremely excited to see the collection as I have worked with the designer a few years ago and I know that sustainability is key to their design and work ethic.
From a personal point of view, I think this is a project they have created to bridge a gap in the market, between affordable and sustainable fashion.
Lounge-wear have created garments that have attained credentials from organisations such as PeTA. Although at first glance you may think otherwise, the creators of Lounge-Wear aren’t all vegan, they aren’t the typical ‘eco-warriors’ you may think. They are modern-day people that live a life as you and I.
They are concerned with the issues of today and want to personally make an impact. They know their impact is just a small step but it’s still a step forward. They are determined to create a more sustainable world however, they know that everyone must do their bit to make it possible.
On first impressions, I witnessed a premium clothing line in a range of neutral hues to suit every skin tone and with a closer look I realised that every single aspect of design had been considered. The clothing is extremely soft and comfortable, the materials are recycled and organic even down to the labelling and packaging. As community is very important to the staff at Lounge-wear they have ensured their garments are produced in a SedEx certified environment. They work with suppliers that pay their workers a living wage as the welfare of the workers is hugely important to them.
The collection is made up of everyday items you can wear time and time again. There’s zip-up hoodies, pull-on hoodies and joggers with elasticated waists. The items all have a stretch element to them so you are able to wear this at multiple different times in your life, even as your body changes. You can wear it wherever you need to be and you will always feel warm and at home in the clothing. Lounge-Wear’s mission is to make you look and feel good, whilst doing good.
In terms of design, the pieces are contemporary. The silhouettes are classic and extremely soft, plush fabrics, beautiful waffle lined hoodies, the finishing is immaculate but the detail and graphics are new and fresh. The garments are something that you can wear in 2 years without fearing they have gone out of fashion. They’re essentials and staples for every wardrobe and truly something you can keep for life.
In recent times, there’s been a movement towards working from home and with that a change in the style of workwear we now see.
I noted that the affordable nature of the clothing has really meant that the company is helping more people take that first step towards a more sustainable future. Sustainable clothing at an accessible price point is really something that will help convert more people towards conscious consumption with pieces that will see you through season after season.
The negative connotations associated with recycled fabrics can be forgotten now Lounge-wear has created an achievable attainable and affordable range.
